Privacy
The short version
- No cookies, no account, no ads.
- Visits and a few button taps are counted anonymously, without cookies, on TuneLit's own server.
- Microphone sound is analyzed on your device and never leaves it.
- Your settings stay in your own browser.
- Every file comes from tunelit.com: no third-party scripts, fonts or images.
The microphone
The tuner needs the microphone to hear your instrument, so your browser asks for permission when you tap Start. The sound is analyzed in real time, inside the page, on your device. It is not recorded, not stored and not uploaded. While the tuner listens, the page makes no network requests; you can check this in your browser's network tools. The microphone turns off when you tap Stop or leave the tab.
On your device
What is stored on your device
TuneLit saves your settings in your browser's local storage under the key tunelit:v1: instrument, tuning and shift (remembered per instrument), A4, cents, note names, precision, meter style, tuner mode, reference tone options and, if you pick one, the input device. Custom tunings you save sit under tunelit:custom:v1 and the background you choose under tunelit:sky. This data never leaves your device. To delete it, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
To work offline, the site also keeps its own files (pages, scripts, styles, fonts, icons) in your browser's cache through a service worker. Clearing site data removes that too.
On the server
What the server sees
Like every website, the server receives normal web requests: your IP address, the page address and your browser type. TuneLit keeps access logs only for security and troubleshooting, with the last part of the IP address removed, and deletes them after about two weeks. Error logs, used only to fix problems, can include a full IP address and are deleted on the same schedule. There are no cookies, and nothing is sold or shared.
Visitor counts
How visits are counted
Since 9 October 2026 TuneLit counts visits with Umami, an open-source counter that runs on TuneLit's own server, so nothing goes to a third party. For each page view it records the page address (without the part after a ?), the site you came from (for example a search engine), your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, keeps no IP address and builds no profile of you.
It also counts a few button taps in the same anonymous way, for example starting the tuner, opening Tune by ear or saving a song in Play along. A tap comes with a few plain words at most: the instrument, a tuning's name, the band, album and song of a Tune button on a band page, or a rough song length such as “3 to 6 minutes”. It never counts what you play, record or load: no sound, no file names, nothing you type.
If your browser sends Do Not Track, nothing is counted.
Sharing
Links you share
A shared link can carry settings such as ?a4=432. They are in the address you choose to share, and they only change the tuner for the person who opens it.
Updates
Changes
The anonymous counts above (page views and a few button taps) were added on 9 October 2026, after this page announced them. If anything else changes, this page will say so before it happens.

HTTPS only
Security
The site runs over HTTPS only. A strict Content Security Policy tells your browser to run nothing that does not come from tunelit.com:
default-src 'self'; script-src 'self'; style-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline'; img-src 'self' data: blob:; media-src 'self' blob:; connect-src 'self'; worker-src 'self'; manifest-src 'self'; frame-ancestors 'none'; base-uri 'none'; form-action 'none'; object-src 'none'
A Permissions Policy limits microphone access to this site, and blocks the camera and location entirely.
Questions
Does TuneLit use cookies?
No. Settings are kept in your browser's local storage, which is never sent to the server.
Is my microphone audio recorded?
No. It is analyzed in real time on your device and then dropped. Nothing is saved or uploaded.
Does TuneLit count visitors?
Yes, anonymously. An open-source counter (Umami) on TuneLit's own server records page views and a few button taps, such as starting the tuner, without cookies and without keeping IP addresses. It never records what you play, record or load. Do Not Track turns it off.
How do I delete my settings?
Clear the site data for tunelit.com in your browser settings. That removes the saved settings and the offline copy of the site.
