Standard tuning
7-string guitar tuning
A 7-string guitar adds a low B1 (61.74 Hz) under the usual six strings. Strings 1 to 6 are tuned exactly like a 6-string guitar.
Low B reads fine on most phone mics. Pluck firmly and let the note settle for a second before you turn the peg.
Tip. Tune the six strings you know first, then the low B. String 7 at fret 5 should sound the same E as open string 6.

Measured
How the tuner hears a 7-string guitar
On a phone, B1 is the hardest 7-string guitar string to hear: in our phone-mic model its fundamental arrives about 9 dB quieter, so the tuner works from the overtones and checks the octave against your tuning. In our phone-mic test B1 still read within about 1 ¢, the 7-string guitar strings above it within about 1 ¢, and clean test tones within 0.2 ¢.

String tension
A typical 10–59 set on a 25.5″ scale pulls about 118 lb (54 kg) in B Standard, or 16.9 lb per string on average.

Shift the whole tuning
The tuner can move all seven strings together, from an octave down to an octave up, and add fine cents on top. Each step keeps every chord shape the same.

Questions
What are the standard 7-string guitar notes?
From String 7 to String 1: B1 E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4 (B Standard). At A4 = 440 Hz they are 61.74, 82.41, 110.00, 146.83, 196.00, 246.94, 329.63 Hz.
Is B Standard on a 6-string the same as a 7-string?
No. B Standard on a 6-string (B E A D F♯ B) moves all six strings down 2½ whole steps. A 7-string keeps E standard on strings 1 to 6 and adds one low B below them.
Can I tune my 7-string guitar lower or higher?
Yes. Use the ◂ ▸ arrows on the tuning chip to move every string by a half step. One half step down takes about 11% of the tension off; one half step up adds about 12% (approx.).
