Before we measured, sources said: E Standard, with no pitch given (community).
Recorded at Cherokee Studios and Sound City between July 2006 and April 2007, with Troy Van Leeuwen, Joey Castillo and Alain Johannes; Julian Casablancas plays and sings on Sick, Sick, Sick. Most songs are in E Standard and three heavy ones stay in the old C Standard. One UG transcriber says most of the album is in C♯ Standard; only Turnin’ on the Screw has a low note that E Standard cannot reach, so the list keeps the tabs’ E Standard.

E Standard +6 ¢Measured
Notes
Songsterr and UG tab it in E Standard, and the guitar tab plays the record’s notes at pitch. The record does have a little low C♯ that an E-tuned bass cannot reach, and one UG transcriber says most of the album is in C♯ Standard, so a lower tuning is possible.

Questions
What tuning is Era Vulgaris in?
Queens of the Stone Age recorded Era Vulgaris (2007) in E Standard, about 6 cents sharp (A ≈ 442), measured by TuneLit on the CD. Sick, Sick, Sick, Battery Acid and 3's & 7's use C Standard +6 ¢; River in the Road uses E Standard −11 ¢.
Why does Era Vulgaris sound out of tune with my guitar?
River in the Road sits about 12 cents flat (A ≈ 437), so a guitar tuned to A 440 clashes with it. The Tune buttons on this page set the tuner's reference to match the record, so you only tune the strings.
