About Snuff
Snuff is the ballad of All Hope Is Gone (2008), built on clean and acoustic guitars before Jim Root's heavier lead part. Its tuning is C♯ Standard (C♯ F♯ B E G♯ C♯): the band's usual Drop B with String 6 left at C♯ instead of dropped to B, and the bass at C♯ F♯ B E.
The song reads about 10 ¢ sharp (A ≈ 442.5) with high confidence, while the rest of the album sits at concert pitch, so it has its own Tune setting: C♯ Standard +10 ¢. TuneLit's semitone check from the audio hears the low C♯, which backs the main tabs on Songsterr and Ultimate Guitar.
Tabs disagree more on Snuff than on any other song of the album. Live and acoustic transcriptions use Drop B, and a popular standard-tuning version is a simplified re-tuning. If you come from a Drop B guitar, only String 6 has to move, up a whole step from B to C♯; from standard, lower every string three half steps. The low C♯ sits a little less slack than Drop B's B, so a regular heavy set copes well.
Tip: From Drop B, raise String 6 a whole step to C♯, set the reference to about 442.5 Hz, and check it against the bass before you play along.
Step by step
Tune your guitar like the record
- Tap Tune like this: the tuner switches to C♯ Standard, every string +10 ¢, the notes Snuff was recorded in.
- From the album's Drop B: String 6 up a whole step (B → C♯); the other strings stay. No tuner that knows C♯ Standard? Clamp a capo across fret 3, tune to E Standard as usual, then take it off: every string drops to C♯ Standard. Check each string again afterwards, since a capo pulls the strings a little sharp.
- Turn String 6 to String 1 until each shows ✓ in tune. Snuff sits 10 cents sharp on the record: at A 440 your guitar would sound that much flat against it, which Tune already corrects.
- Then play Snuff along with the record: its lowest open note and your String 6 should ring together without a wobble.

Move the record into your tuning
Rather keep your guitar as it is? Let Play along move Snuff instead. Add your own copy, for example from your CD (it never leaves your device); the link already says the song is in C♯ Standard +10 ¢. Choose E Standard at A 440 and Snuff moves up 2 half steps and 90 cents, at its own speed. Slow it down or loop a few bars to learn it, and save the result as a WAV file.
