About Radio/Video

Radio/Video, from Mezmerize (2005), lurches between a bouncy verse and crushing heavy parts, with changes of tempo all through. It is in Drop C♯. In the main tab the clean guitar almost never needs the open low C♯: it plays at frets 3, 5, 7 and 8 of String 6 and slides constantly, while the solo lines climb as high as fret 22.

TuneLit measured Mezmerize at concert pitch (about 2 ¢ sharp) and Radio/Video about 3 ¢ flat, so the Tune button opens Drop C♯ at A 440, and the check from the audio agrees with the C♯.

This is one of the songs most often played from the wrong tab. A version written in E Standard has tens of thousands of views on Songsterr, and a Drop C version exists too. Neither is the album: the E Standard one is in a different key, and the Drop C one sits a half step lower. With all the slides, a wrong tuning is easy to miss at first, so check against the record early.

Tip: Tune to Drop C♯ at A 440, then check fret 5 of String 6 against the F♯ that the verse keeps sliding back to.

Step by step

Tune your guitar like the record

  1. Tap Tune like this: the tuner switches to Drop C♯, the notes Radio/Video was recorded in.
  2. From E Standard: String 6 down 3 half steps (E → C♯), String 5 down a half step (A → G♯), String 4 down a half step (D → C♯), String 3 down a half step (G → F♯), String 2 down a half step (B → A♯), String 1 down a half step (E → D♯).
  3. Turn String 6 to String 1 until each shows ✓ in tune. Radio/Video sits at concert pitch on the record, so the tuner stays at A 440.
  4. Then play Radio/Video along with the record: its lowest open note and your String 6 should ring together without a wobble.
