Offset from concert pitch (A 440). Spread: the middle half of the songs, when four or more share the album's pitch. Confidence: how well the notes agree with one grid.

Before we measured, sources said: E♭ Standard, with no pitch given (community).

A mostly acoustic EP recorded in a few days in November 1991, with Cantrell's first lead vocal (Brother), Ann Wilson of Heart on Brother and Am I Inside, and Chris Cornell and Mark Arm on Right Turn (credited to "Alice Mudgarden"). All in E♭ Standard at concert pitch, except Right Turn, about 20 ¢ flat. The unlisted fifth track, Love Song, with the four members on swapped instruments, is left out here.

    Notes

Credited to "Alice Mudgarden": Chris Cornell and Mark Arm sing with Staley and Cantrell. TuneLit measured it about 20 ¢ flat (A ≈ 435), unlike the rest of the EP; the audio check confirms E♭ as the lowest string.

E♭ Standard on Songsterr's tab, like the rest of Sap. TuneLit measured this song on its own about 20 ¢ flat (A ≈ 435).

Questions

What tuning is Sap in?

Alice in Chains recorded Sap (1992) in E♭ Standard at concert pitch (A 440), measured by TuneLit on the CD. Right Turn uses E♭ Standard −20 ¢.

Why does Sap sound out of tune with my guitar?

Right Turn sits about 20 cents flat (A ≈ 435), so a guitar tuned to A 440 clashes with it. The Tune buttons on this page set the tuner's reference to match the record, so you only tune the strings.
