Before we measured, sources said: Drop D, with no pitch given (community).

The most varied Clawfinger album, and the first at concert pitch: TuneLit measured the CD about 2.5 ¢ flat, which counts as A 440. Two Steps Away, Confrontation and Paradise are tabbed in Drop D, Out to Get Me in D Standard, Burn in Hell in Drop C and the Ultravox cover Vienna in E Standard; Vienna also measures higher, about 13 ¢ sharp. Half of the songs have no tab, and TuneLit's semitone check from the audio hears other low notes on some of them: C♯ on Are You Man Enough and Simon Says, C on Don't Look at Me. They keep the album's Drop D until someone checks them by ear.

    Notes

    How to get there from the album's Drop D: String 5 down a whole step (A → G), String 4 down a whole step (D → C), String 3 down a whole step (G → F), String 2 down a whole step (B → A), String 1 down a whole step (E → D); the other strings stay.

Songsterr's most-viewed Clawfinger tab and the best-rated Ultimate Guitar version are in D Standard (D G C F A D); an older text tab calls it Drop D. TuneLit's semitone check from the audio hears D as the lowest open string.

  3. 3. Nothing Going On

    Drop DMeasured

    Notes

The riff lives on the open A string, so it works in Drop D and in E Standard alike.

An Ultimate Guitar tab is in Drop D and a machine transcription on Songsterr in E Standard; both play the riff on the open A string. Bård Torstensen's Wikipedia page says, without a source, that he played this song on a baritone with its low strings tuned to G. The audio cannot settle it: the riff sits on A, and no lower note sounds often enough.

  4. 4. Are You Man Enough

    Drop DMeasured

    Notes

No tab found, so it follows the album's Drop D. TuneLit's semitone check from the audio hears C♯ rather than D as its lowest note: check by ear.

  6. 6. Evolution

  7. 7. Don't Look at Me

    Drop DMeasured

    Notes

No tab found, so it follows the album's Drop D. The audio's lowest note is C, a whole step under D, which would mean Drop C: check by ear.

  8. 8. Simon Says

    Drop DMeasured

    Notes

No tab found, so it follows the album's Drop D. TuneLit's semitone check from the audio hears C♯ rather than D as its lowest note: check by ear.

    Notes

How to get there from the album's Drop D: Every string down a whole step.

The only tab (Songsterr) is in Drop C, with a 5-string bass. TuneLit's semitone check from the audio is not sure: the song's lowest notes sit mostly on G and G♯, not on C.

    Notes

How to get there from the album's Drop D: String 6 up a whole step (D → E); the other strings stay.

A cover of the Ultravox song. The only tab (Songsterr) puts the guitar in E Standard, with a 5-string bass. TuneLit measured this song about 13 ¢ sharp (A ≈ 443), unlike the rest of the album. The semitone check from the audio picks F as the lowest note, the usual result when a song sits on the first fret and never rings the open E.

Questions

What tuning is A Whole Lot of Nothing in?

Clawfinger recorded A Whole Lot of Nothing (2001) in Drop D at concert pitch (A 440), measured by TuneLit on the CD. Out to Get Me uses D Standard; Burn in Hell uses Drop C; Vienna uses E Standard +13 ¢.

Why does A Whole Lot of Nothing sound out of tune with my guitar?

Vienna sits about 13 cents sharp (A ≈ 443), so a guitar tuned to A 440 clashes with it. The Tune buttons on this page set the tuner's reference to match the record, so you only tune the strings.
