Before we measured, sources said: E♭ Standard, with no pitch given (widely reported).
A double album of covers. Disc 1 (tracks 1–11) was recorded in 1998, mostly in E♭, with Sabbra Cadabra and Whiskey in the Jar in D Standard, the two Discharge covers in C♯ Standard and Loverman in E Standard. Disc 2 (tracks 12–27) collects older covers in the tunings they were first released in: the $5.98 E.P. (1987), the 1984 Creeping Death B-sides, B-sides and one-offs from 1988 to the early 1990s, and the Motörhead covers from the 1996 Hero of the Day single. TuneLit measured the set close to concert pitch; Whiskey in the Jar (+11 ¢), Killing Time (+8 ¢), Helpless (+7 ¢) and The Small Hours (+22 ¢) have their own offsets.

Questions
What tuning is Garage Inc. in?
Metallica recorded Garage Inc. (1998) in E♭ Standard at concert pitch (A 440), measured by TuneLit on the CD and the original LP. 18 songs use other tunings or pitches, listed song by song on this page.
Why does Garage Inc. sound out of tune with my guitar?
Whiskey in the Jar sits about 11 cents sharp (A ≈ 443), so a guitar tuned to A 440 clashes with it. The Tune buttons on this page set the tuner's reference to match the record, song by song, so you only tune the strings.
