About Amerika
Amerika, the sixth track on Reise, Reise (2004), is in Drop C like almost the whole album, C G C F A D. The low notes heard most on the record are D and C, two frets apart on the dropped string, so the riff keeps returning to the open C.
TuneLit measured Reise, Reise at concert pitch (about +1 ¢), but Amerika on its own sits about 10 ¢ sharp (A ≈ 442.5), enough to get its own setting. A guitar tuned to plain A 440 sounds a little flat against it, most clearly on the sustained chords; Tune sets the tuner 10 ¢ up. TuneLit's semitone check from the audio agrees that C is the lowest open string.
The next track, Moskau, is the one song on the album tabbed in Drop D, so after Amerika you would raise every string a whole step and then go back down for Morgenstern. If you only want to play the singles, stay in Drop C and change only the reference: Amerika at A 442.5, the rest of the album at A 440. When the riff steps between C and D, mute the open string with the picking hand so the two low notes do not blur into each other.
Tip: Tune to Drop C with the reference raised to A 442.5; tuned at plain 440, the record's chords sound slightly sharp against your guitar.
Step by step
Tune your guitar like the record
- Tap Tune like this: the tuner switches to Drop C, every string +10 ¢, the notes Amerika was recorded in.
- From E Standard: String 6 down 4 half steps (E → C), String 5 down a whole step (A → G), String 4 down a whole step (D → C), String 3 down a whole step (G → F), String 2 down a whole step (B → A), String 1 down a whole step (E → D).
- Turn String 6 to String 1 until each shows ✓ in tune. Amerika sits 10 cents sharp on the record: at A 440 your guitar would sound that much flat against it, which Tune already corrects.
- Then play Amerika along with the record: its lowest open note and your String 6 should ring together without a wobble.

Move the record into your tuning
Rather keep your guitar as it is? Let Play along move Amerika instead. Add your own copy, for example from your CD (it never leaves your device); the link already says the song is in Drop C +10 ¢. Choose Drop D at A 440 and Amerika moves up a half step and 90 cents, at its own speed. Slow it down or loop a few bars to learn it, and save the result as a WAV file.
