Before we measured, sources said: E Standard, with no pitch given (community).

The first sessions with Glen Ballard were set aside and the album was re-recorded with Kevin Shirley in late 1996. The tabs keep it in E Standard, with Attitude Adjustment in Drop D. TuneLit measured the CD at concert pitch; The Farm and Kiss Your Past Good-Bye sit lower, about 12 to 13 cents flat. The cover shown here is the original 1997 artwork, replaced on later pressings.

How to get there from the album's E Standard: String 6 down a whole step (E → D); the other strings stay.

Drop D for the main riff. TuneLit's audio check agrees that D is the lowest open string.

Three of the four guitar parts in the Songsterr tab drop the low string to D; the fourth is in open G.

Questions

What tuning is Nine Lives in?

Aerosmith recorded Nine Lives (1997) in E Standard at concert pitch (A 440), measured by TuneLit on the CD. The Farm uses E Standard −13 ¢; Kiss Your Past Good-Bye uses E Standard −12 ¢; Attitude Adjustment uses Drop D.

Why does Nine Lives sound out of tune with my guitar?

The Farm sits about 13 cents flat (A ≈ 437), so a guitar tuned to A 440 clashes with it. The Tune buttons on this page set the tuner's reference to match the record, song by song, so you only tune the strings.
