Offset from concert pitch (A 440). Spread: the middle half of the songs, when four or more share the album's pitch. Confidence: how well the notes agree with one grid.

Before we measured, sources said: C♯ Standard at A 425, about 60 cents flat (widely reported).

Tabs call most of this album C♯ Standard, but the record sits between C♯ and D: about 50 ¢ below D (A ≈ 428). TuneLit lists the title track, War Nerve, Living Through Me and Floods in D, tuned flat as Dime usually did. So the album tunes as D Standard at A 428, and Floods lower, at about 64 ¢ (A ≈ 424). Drag the Waters is the exception: TuneLit's semitone check from the audio and its tab both say C♯, so it is listed in C♯ Standard at A 428. Suicide Note Pt. I is an acoustic 12-string piece in Drop D, and the last two tracks drop the 6th string to a low G.

    Different tuning

    Notes

A half step below the rest of the album: C♯ Standard at A 428.

Guitar World uses this song as its example of Dime's down-1½-steps tuning (C♯ F♯ B E G♯ C♯), and the community tab is in C♯ Standard, with a 4-string bass. Most songs on this album are listed in D.

TuneLit's semitone check from the audio hears C♯ as the lowest open string: C♯ is the song's most common low note, and the C under it never sounds. The tab and Guitar World say C♯ too, so the song is listed in C♯. If it sounds a half step low, try D Standard at A 428.

    Notes

Songsterr's original tab is in C♯ Standard; later versions use D Standard or Drop C (whose upper five strings match D Standard). The record sits between the two: about 64 ¢ below D, which an A 440 tuner reads as C♯ +36, the first tab's C♯.

  10. 10. The Underground in America

    Different tuning

    G1 G2 C3 F3 A3 D4 A 428Measured

    Notes

Pantera's lowest tuning: D Standard with the 6th string slackened to a low G, an octave below the 5th string. Wikipedia puts it at about A 425; TuneLit measured the album at about A 428, which puts the low note almost exactly halfway between G and F♯. That is why tabs split between G G C F A D and F♯ F♯ B E G♯ C♯.

  11. 11. (Reprise) Sandblasted Skin

    Different tuning

    G1 G2 C3 F3 A3 D4 A 428Measured

    Notes

Same low-G tuning as The Underground in America: D Standard with the 6th string down to G, at the album's measured A 428 (Wikipedia says about 425). Metal Hammer also describes it as tuned down to G.
